Memorial Goofy Golf Hole for Mr. Richard Berg, beloved UWF Argonaut and First Tee Gulf Coast founding partner

We at The First Tee Gulf Coast are proud to announce our initiative to honor a long time past Chairman, founding partner, Honorary Board Member, visionary and friend—not just to us but to so many other institutions through his work with the University of West Florida, Pensacola Sports, First City Sports to name a few. Mr. Richard Berg served nine years as Chairman of the Board of the Greater Pensacola Junior Golf Association/First Tee Gulf Coast from January 2009 through December 2017– longer than any other individual in the 19 year history of our Chapter. He was chairman when the organization agreed unanimously to purchase the historic 1958 Goofy Golf property in Warrington as its first ever home facility in 2015, and presided over its groundbreaking two years later. He oversaw a period of enormous growth in the history of the Chapter, from under 200 participants in his first year at three programming sites to almost 800 in that eight year period at nearly a dozen sites.

In order to honor Mr. Berg and all that he gave to and for our community, we are proud to announce an initiative to renovate, restore and rename an iconic hole at Goofy Golf in his honor. The former “Atlantis” hole will be known moving forward as “Argonautica” (The Journey of the Argo) in memory of Mr. Berg. It will be restored, repainted and stickered with the colors and logos of UWF and will feature a plaque that will honor his career and accomplishments. We are asking for your support—a donation of any amount will cover the costs associated with the renovation; additionally one-half of all donations received by First Tee Gulf Coast will be forwarded to the university in order to support the athletic scholarship fund that bears the name of Richard and his late beloved wife Sandy.
